Finding 290 made ENABL/GRP1/VDELBL selection beam-aware, but the renderer still painted the ball's width, color, position and motion from the end-of-line snapshot. A mid-line CTRLPF, COLUPF, RESBL, HMBL or HMOVE write could therefore retroactively alter pixels the beam had already crossed.
